Tip:
Using the right tool for the job: placing text into your
score. There
is generally more than one way to accomplish a task in Finale. But that
doesn't mean that just because you can use
a certain tool for a task, that it's the best
way to get it done.
|
The
issue:
Placing
text into your score.
|
 |
There are
several ways to get text to appear in your score. The two primary ways
are with the Text Tool and the Expression Tool. You can even get text
into your score with the Chord Tool.

Expression Tool |
Here
is the decision you need to make: Is the text supposed to appear
at a fixed point on the page, such as a title or a page number? If so,
the Text Tool is your best choice. Or is it supposed to appear near
a specific measure? If so, the Expression Tool is your best choice.
 |
The
Wrong Choice: If you were to put in this tempo indication
with the Text Tool, and later move your systems around, the text
marking will stay where you put it initially and will not move. |
The
Right Choice: Use the Expression Tool. Double-click the
measure you want the text to attach to. This dialog will appear.
Click the "Create" button and type your text. It will
appear at the bottom of this list. Click the "Select"
button.

 |
 |
If you just want the text to appear
on a single staff, select "This Staff Only". If you want
it to appear on All Staves, select that option. If you do attach
it to multiple staves, be sure to check "Allow individual positioning"
so you can tweak the position of each instance of the text, particularly
if instruments are playing on ledger lines where this text is supposed
to appear. |
| Now when you move the systems around
on the page, the text stays attached to the measure rather than
remaining static. |
