Tips 'n' Trix

Tip:
Dynamically link your parts to the score.

The issue:
In most notation software, the instrument parts are separate files from the score file. Thus, when you edit the score, you also have to open the part files and edit them too, and vice versa, wasting a lot of time.

In Sibelius 4 and higher, you can link the score with the parts so that edits made in one are reflected in the other.

Create a new document in Sibelius 4 or open a document in Sibelius 4 which was created in an earlier version (or even open a Finale file in Sibelius 4).

If you open an older version file, the dialog at right will appear. Be sure that the option to "Create dynamic parts" is checked.

Now that the score is open, make your edits.

Now click the "Parts" icon on the menu bar. The parts window at right will appear.

Double-click the part you wish to work with.

The part file will open, displaying any edits you have made in the score. You can make additional edits on the parts themselves, and these edits will be reflected in the score. To return to the score, select it from the Window menu.
